It should come to no one’s surprise that this years NJP Team of the Year is the Old Bridge Knights! Winning one state championship is a superlative accomplishment. But winning three in a row is unprecedented in NJ Boys High School Volleyball. After a late start to the season due to COVID protocol, the Knights settled in at #4 in the NJP rankings for most of the season. They were NJP’s Pre-Season #1 team but did not become the NJP #1 team in NJ until the final game of the season.
The three in a row championship accomplishment is rarely seen in any sport, especially in the last 25 years. A few that come to mind are the NBA runs of the Chicago Bulls 1996-1998 and the LA Lakers in 2000-2002. The New York Yankees did it in baseball in 1998-2000. Probably the best comparison is right here in NJ Girl’s Volleyball with Immaculate Heart Academy on a current three year run for the TOC and having done it twice before since 2007.
Congrats to Coach Hopman and every member of the team, the players, coaches and fans…
