Hi Neika… Can the Tigers compete for a Union County championship?

The Tigers can compete for the championship this year. We’ve been working hard all season, and I believe we have the talent and chemistry to succeed. I know we’ll face strong competition, especially from teams like Union Catholic and Westfield, but we’re prepared to rise to the challenge.

How do you handle pressure during important matches?

In high-stakes matches, I usually don’t feel overwhelmed by pressure. Instead, I focus on keeping calm and also helping my teammates stay calm and focused. I think staying calm is key, especially when the game becomes intense, I believe it’s one of my strengths as a player.

What are your goals for this season?

My main goal is to lead my team to the finals of either the county or state tournament. I also have set ambitious goals for myself, including surpassing 500 career kills and breaking my own school record for aces once again. Additionally, I am determined to earn a spot on the All-State team.

How do you balance academics and athletics?

I like staying on top of my academics to make sure that I never get to a point where I’m overwhelmed trying to juggle both schoolwork and sports. This helps me stay stress free during the season.

How do you prepare mentally and physically for a game?

For each game, I focus on both physical and mental readiness. Physically, I always visit the athletic trainers before every match. They help me with stretching and any necessary treatments. Mentally, I like to listen to music as it helps me focus and get in the right mindset for the game. Music has a way of helping me block out distractions and lock in.

In your 3-year high school career, you have put up some impressive statistics and are on your way to surpass 500 kills for your career.  What are your expectations for your senior campaign?

For my senior campaign, I’m excited about reaching the 500-kill milestone, but my main focus is on continuing to grow as a player and a leader. I want to keep improving my skills and do everything I can to help the team toward a championship.

Tell us about your Tigers head coach, Mark Radil?

I consider myself incredibly lucky to have him as a coach. Coach Radil not only knows a lot about volleyball but, he also cares about each of his players both on and off the court. He is always watching films, helping us with our performances, and always providing feedback that helps us improve individually and as a team, his support has played a huge role in shaping the athlete I am today.

Tell us about your teammates and some of the individuals that will contribute toward the Tigers success in 2024?

My teammates have been great this season, especially the juniors who have really stepped up and taken on bigger roles. One standout is Kiara Pashal, our Libero. Her defensive skills are outstanding and she has been a huge asset to our team. She consistently makes key plays that keep us in the game, and her ability to read the opposing offense and react quickly is invaluable. We also have a force in the middle with Kira Woods. Her blocking has been great for us, providing a strong defensive front.

Tell us about your volleyball club experience?

I haven’t had any club experience in the past. But I’m excited to be joining VB Rags for this upcoming season.

What else would you like us to know about you?

I love to cook and eat.
