Here are some notes from the first few weeks of the NJ HS Volleyball season for the girl’s…
5 vs 3 set matches
So many girls are happy about the 5 game matches thus far although there have been so few. Despite the approval to experiment, only 1.1% of all games on the schedule have been 5 set matches. In theory, I think everyone supports the concept. But the reality of available court time and fitting in JV and freshman matches as well as practices is making the idea unrealistic. Love to hear everyone’s comments.
Undefeated teams
There are 14 undefeated teams through 9/26. They are #1 Princeton 11-0, #95 Florence 7-0, #12 Old Tappan 8-0, #2 Immaculate Heart Academy 9-0, #68 Cedar Creek 13-0, #22 Hoboken 12-0, #15 Glen Rock 10-0, #20 Secaucus 11-0, #31 Cherry Hill East 11-0, #5 Paul VI 11-0, #128 Newark Central 4-0, #8 Hunterdon Central 10-0, #3 Williamstown 8-0, and #24 Kingsway 6-0. We expect this number to halve as each week transpires. We expect to have just 7 teams 0n 10/4, 4 on 10/11, and 2 on 10/18. Princeton plays IHA on 10/5 and we expect that one of the two will be that match winner. Hunterdon Central and Williamstown play on 9/28. We would not be surprised to see Hoboken sustain as undefeated for the next couple of weeks. Paul VI has Monroe, Notre Dame and the always dangerous Padua of Delaware in the next few weeks but they are likely to sustain as well. Old Tappan can certainly run the regular season table but they have Pascack Valley on PV’s home court coming up after surviving a 3-set match earlier this year with 2 sets at 26-24. Cedar Creek has a light schedule but may get cut down this weekend by Cherry Hill West who has been playing much higher caliber opponents. Glen Rock will likely fall to Ramsey and Secaucus may bear ther first loss against Livingston. We will see just how close we come. Best of luck to all of these great teams.
We will be continuing our feature articles and player interviews for another few weeks. Girl’s!!, Please make sure to connect to NJPVolleyball on instagram. This is where 95% of our invites are generated.
