The NJP rating algorithm had its best state playoff record in its history logging a 93%+ winning record for the 244 games played in the NJ HS Girls Volleyball state playoff brackets through the 4 rounds to sectional winners. Overall, the NJP Predictor recorded a 223-21 record while picking 22 upsets where lower seeded teams won their matches. We picked more winning upsets than overall losses in the grid.
The proprietary algorithm was developed over a decade ago and continues to perform at an extremely high level. Below is a summary of our record for each round. Typically, the later rounds result in a lower % of winners, but this season, the algorithm actually improved as the game competition became tighter.
Round one resulted in a 91% win rate, and the semi-final round came in at 90%. The sectional semi-final bracket saw NJP go 38-2 while picking 6 upsets. In sectional final matchups for Public schools, NJP finished with 14 of 16 winners.
Considering the volatility of high school sports, the rating system has proved exceptionally accurate.
Group semi-final selections are now posted. Although we do not expect to be near this win percentage as most of the remaining matches are toss-ups, the last 18 games of the season over the next few days will continue to display the high level that NJ volleyball has achieved. Sit back and enjoy these final games and cheer on all the best teams and players remaining in the hunt.
