Toms River South middle hitter Kelle Anwander has committed to the NJIT Highlanders. The 6’4″ middle seems to be a great match for the NJIT program, both academically and athletically.

NJIT Womens Head Coach Pedro Trevino describes the reasons for his interest in Kelle. “We are very excited to have Kelle playing for us. She is a very strong academic student and her athletic ceiling has the potential to be very high. Her desire to work hard and earn a starting spot is a trait that I love about her.”

Coach Trevino begins his second year at NJIT. A former standout NJIT volleyball player himself, Coach was brought in to turn around a program that has not had a winning season sonce 2009. The D1 level is no cake walk and Coach has introduced a new approach for his players creating a new mindset moving forward. The addition of players like Kelle is one more step to move the program in the right direction.

I’m beyond excited to announce my commitment to play division 1 volleyball at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. I just want to say thank you to my parents, coaches, and all my teammates who have helped me achieve this goal. I can’t wait to spend my next 4 years at NJIT!!  #gohighlanders  #NJIT #next4 — Kelle Anwander

Kelle still has the Spring high school season to show off her stuff at the Shore. Toms River South is expected to be a Top 40 team in NJ, where there are over 300 high school volleyball programs. NJP projects Toms River South to be a top 3 at the shore and will be battling perennial favorites Souther Regional, St, John Vianney, and Donovan Catholic for Shore conference honors.

NJIT continues to be recognized as an outstanding academic choice for students. The STEM school is located in the heart of University Heights in Newark on a 125 acre campus that continues to expend and innovate. The Wellness Center where the team trains and plays is a state of the art facility recently added to an expanding campus and is a hallmark of the institution. The New Jersey Institute of Technology is a Top Ranked Public Honors College, ranked #1 in the nation for student economic upward mobility according to Forbes, and is a Top 100 National University according to the 2020 QS World University Ranking. It sounds like Kelle is in good hands.

Give Coach Trevino one more season and you will start to see the Highlander program shift from being the automatic win on opponents schedule to being a potential force in the GWC. With Kelle helping to drive this success.
