As we were putting together our ranking analysis today, it was quite apparent what the effect of the pandemic has been on the schedule for high school volleyball. We are twelve days into the season and as you can see below, the number of games played for some teams is just astonishing.
Almost 50 high school teams that participated last year have yet to play one set so far this year. Included on this list is Bogota, Dover, Pascack Hills, Ramapo, Passaic Valley, Paramus Catholic and many more. Many of the independent schools have yet to start or have cancelled their season.
Numerous teams have played 2 or less games as well. Midland Park was a top 10 NJP preseason team and just played their first game. Old Tappan had a game earlier against Demarest and has been quite since. Kinnelon just had their first game this weekend. Many of the schools are observing new protocols for student safety. With just a couple of weeks left in the season, we hope many of these teams can get on the floor soon.
Good luck girls and stay safe…
