Friday night in week 4 means a packed schedule, preparation for County tournaments and the start of tourney games, lots of senior nights, and of course many “Dig Pink” events supporting breast cancer fundraising and awareness. This time of year is always filled with player achievements for both individual season stats and career stats. Send them over from your team so we can verify, post them, and recognize the accomplishments. The same with school records… we don’t have a lot of visibility on those achievements based on historical records by school so make sure to send them when achieved.

We posted our UCC tournament rankings and seeding for the upcoming Union County tournament last night. We hope to do this for both Essex and Bergen before the night is out as those tournament schedules have already started or are starting tomorrow.

We have Westfield as a strong favorite to bring home the Union County crown. Bergen County will be extremely competitive but we do expect IHA to continue to distinguish themselves as head and shoulders above the rest. Essex County is also a very competitive landscape but Livingston is a clear favorite. Both Bergen and Essex have a huge field of teams participating so anything can happen over multiple rounds of play.

Olivia Willemsen of Piscataway earned her 100th career block this week for the Chiefs. The senior leads the GMC in blocks this season. It’s a good bet she will shatter her mark of 68 set last season as she already has 42 this Fall.

Vivian Roberts from Summit continues to have many achievements for the Hilltoppers. She passed 300 kills in her career this season and may even reach 500 before she is done. The 6’1″ senior is such a solid player.

Rutgers Prep junior Annalyse Santowasso has been a fireball on defense her entire high school career. After notching 215 digs her freshman season, she has easily topped 500 career digs as a junior. Amazing work for the 5’2″ libero.
West Morris central libero Angelina Mauro continues her onslaught on opponents attacks as she has now lifted 600 digs in her career. The Wolfpack junior has the potential of reaching the century mark for high school career.
6’3″ Lancer Ashley Sofilkanich reached 200 kills for her career this week as well as eclipsing the 100 mark this season. Ashley is also close to reaching 100 blocks for her career for St. John Vianney.
Fair Lawn secured the Big North-Independence regular season title this week! Congrats to the Cutters!

Tonight’s schedule commentary:

IHA enters the Bergen County tournament at 18-1 after sacking the Northern Highland Highlanders in straight sets. Immaculate Heart is NJP’s pick to take the tournament held at Old Tappan over the next few weekends. No early round buys for the Blue Eagles as they will take on #32 New Milford tomorrow. in round 1. Pascack Hills will be up next and then a likely date with Old Tappan.

Some big quad match-ups tomorrow with some of NJ’s top teams. We will see at least a few teams drop from the unbeaten ranks tomorrow. There is also a really interesting matchup between Paul VI and Princeton Saturday. Paul VI holds the edge in rating but Princeton is undefeated and looking to make their mark. Will be very interesting.

We ran out of time tonight… Many of the NJ top teams came through unscathed including… Summit, Ridgewood, Tenafly, IHA, Old Bridge, Union Catholic, Summit, Livingston, Bergen Tech, Bogota, Old Tappan, River Dell, Fair Lawn, Emerson, MKA, Wayne Valley, Washington Township and Donovan Catholic.

In some close matches that were a bit more of a surprise… East Brunswick got beat in straight sets by Monroe. Ridge edged Morristown in 3 sets. Union Catholic knocked of BR in straight sets. Watchung Hills defeated Piscataway. And Brick Township defeated TRE.
