After two weeks of gathering data, NJP is launching computer ranking #1. The ranking algorithm will get better and better, and more accurate as the season progresses and more data is accumulated. But the algorithm is now statistically viable. There have been 1,155 games played thus far in the Fall season.

The team rating represent one point in a set so if you compare teams, the difference between the two ratings will represent the expected difference in the set score. If there is an 8 point differential, the score of the set should be 25-17. If the differential is less than 2 between teams, we expect that match to go three sets. The NJP Predictor algorithm takes into consideration ratings plus some other factors such as win streaks, home/away, etc… The NJP Predictor has maintained a win percentage of 90% in high school volleyball over the past 3 years. We recognize this win percentage as a complete validation of the ranking algorithm, despite numerous analytical flaws.

NJP ranks every team in the state, not just the top teams. We always invite debate and discussion. But remember, the ratings are based on math. Not opinions of writers, coaches, or fans. So no bias. We can not measure so many important factors, especially with player ratings, but we present our analysis in an objective way for our fans to enjoy. NJP represents the fans in the state of NJ. You can always send us feedback and we will return your emails.
