Hi Hailey…
The impact of the Atkins family on Morristown volleyball is unprecedented. Tell us about your sisters and the dynamic of playing together for the Colonials.
Playing with my twin sister definitely has its advantages. We obtain a connection with one another while on the court, that can aid our team in matches. It is most prominent when Gwen sets, and I hit. Having the ability to assist Morristown’s rise in volleyball is something that myself and family will never forget.
Can you tell us about what colleges you are considering attending after graduation?
My twin sister, Gwen, and I have agreed to commit to Division 1, at Saint Francis University. Playing volleyball at the next level is something I have always worked hard for. Additionally having my Twin beside me is even more exciting. I am beyond thrilled to see what the next four years will look like.

What’s the most important trait you look for in a teammate?
Something important within a teammate is someone with passion and energy while on the court. The sport is mental just as much as physical, and having confident, fiery energy is a no-brainer. Maintaining high energy is a prominent component of any match no matter who we are facing.
Motown is off to a solid with impressive league wins over Sparta, Roxbury, WMC, and Montville. Which team will be the toughest to contend with for NJAC American league honors?

As always, Sparta has a great program and has talented players on their roster. Playing them each year calls for a competitive game. Sparta will be a challenge when we see them again early in October for our season’s second match-up. They will be an intense game as they are a well-rounded team in the NJAC.
In your 4-year high school career, you have put up some impressive statistics and have surpassed 500 digs for your career. What are your expectations for your senior campaign?
My expectations for my senior year are to contribute as much as I can to my team, Whether that means kills, aces, or digs, my goal is to assist and do whatever I can to return to the Group 4 championship.
Tell us about your Colonials head coach, Kathy Hormaza?
My head coach Kathy Hormaza is the type of coach that expects a lot out of her players. She sees the potential our team has every season and wants us to perform our best. She continues to push us every day, and it’s visible that she wants every win just as much as we do.

Tell us about your teammates and some of the individuals that will contribute toward the Colonials success in 2024?
Ashley Padilla, our starting libero has an outstanding defense as she can pick up tips swiftly, and dig hard-driven balls with ease is no doubt a big contribution to our team. Gwen Atkins is nothing but a heavy hitter in our lineup. She is such a versatile player as she can set, hit, and serve, constantly challenging our opponents.
Tell us about your leadership style?
Being a captain comes with a lot of pressure on and off the court. My leadership style doesn’t stop when the match ends. Surely it is important to uplift my teammates and find ways out of difficult situations when we find ourselves stuck. Being a leader means taking responsibility of the little things such and being the first ones on the court to lead the dynamic warm-up, and being the last ones out of the gym during a practice or game. It also means to be in attendance at volleyball-related fundraisers, events, or gatherings. It’s all about setting a good example for the upcoming varsity players in the following seasons.
What is your best memory of your high school career so far?
My best memory is winning the state ring Because I was able to do it with my best friends with me. It is something that I will talk about for a long time, is something we have worked so hard for, and is so well deserved to every player on our team.
