The Williamstown Braves have once again put New Jersey volleyball on the national map. In the Week 4 USA TODAY Sports/AVCA Regional Rankings, Williamstown cracked the Region 2 Top 10, which covers powerhouse programs across Maryland, D.C., Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

Coming in at #4 with an undefeated 12-0 record, the Braves stand tall as the only New Jersey high school recognized in this week’s list. This recognition reflects not only the program’s talent and consistency but also the long-standing tradition of excellence built under Head Coach Chris Sheppard, one of the most respected figures in NJ volleyball.

A Proving Ground for NJ Volleyball

Region 2 is stacked with top programs like James Wood (VA), Spring-Ford (PA), and Howard (MD), making Williamstown’s inclusion all the more impressive. For years, New Jersey teams have fought for respect on the national stage, and the Braves’ latest accomplishment shows that Garden State volleyball continues to rise.

Who’s Next for NJ?

While Williamstown grabbed the national headlines this week, they aren’t alone in representing elite-level volleyball from New Jersey. Programs like Paul VI, Old Bridge, and Princeton have also been turning heads this fall with strong starts and statement wins. Each has the potential to climb into the rankings if they continue their current trajectory.

  • Paul VI has emerged as a parochial powerhouse, blending talent and discipline to challenge the state’s best.
  • Old Bridge, one of NJ’s deepest public programs, brings a relentless style of play and big-match experience that makes them dangerous against anyone.
  • Princeton has shown skill and balance, with a roster capable of competing with the top teams not just in NJ, but across the region.

Rallying Behind NJ Volleyball

New Jersey volleyball has long been fueled by passionate players, coaches, and fans who believe the Garden State deserves more recognition on the national stage. Williamstown’s ranking is proof that hard work is paying off, and it should inspire other programs to push for the spotlight.

As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on whether NJ can add more names to the prestigious USA TODAY/AVCA regional rankings. With the level of play we’re seeing across the state, don’t be surprised if more Garden State schools break through.

For now, we celebrate Williamstown’s accomplishment and continue to root for Paul VI, Old Bridge, Princeton, and others to join them.

🔥 Congratulations to Williamstown — New Jersey is proud! Now let’s keep building the case for more NJ schools in the national conversation.
