This is an amazing time of year for Boys high school volleyball. One county tournament in the books and 7 more advancing to a conclusion this week. Even the State tournament is underway and will have more first round games this week. It’s a time for joy for the winners, and time for resilience for the others. It’s an emotional worldwind for players, coaches, and parents. And for seniors and their families, you can multiply the emotion by 10. Some players will be continuing at college, but most will be winding down their volleyball careers with amazing memories and a shift to volleyball with friends rather than high school teammates. For many, volleyball will remain a part of their lives, whether at the beach, the park, or organized in an adult league or open gym. But that time is coming much too quick and will be over in a few weeks which will feel like a blink of an eye. For players, the best part is that that the seed of volleyball passion is planted deep inside. In a decade, it may resurface in a son or daughter that is playing and will rejuvenate your love of the game. The cycle goes on…
There is an updated ranking this evening. And some changes in the ranks based on the algorithm and changes with new inout over the past week. CBA has taken the top spot and SPF has slid back to second in the state. Southern moves to #3 and Old Bridge falls back to #4. West Milford complets the top 5 after beating Fair Lawn this week in straight sets.
Wall (12-2) and Newark Eastside (11-2) enter the top 10 this week. Kearny drops back to #15 from #10. Bosco enters the top 20. BR, Livingston, Williamstown and Payne Tech all drop in the rankings.

Vinil Shah of Hillsboro has taken over the top spot in this weeks rater. Vin leads the state with 194 kills. As expected, high school’s hottest player Jack Farah from St John Vianney quickly moved up to #9 as the sophomore has been piling up the stats this past week. Many of the mainstay players from the entire year remain in the top 20 such as Nick Lima (NES), Ryan Thenell (West Milford), Colin Stevens (CBA), Tim Jiminez and Aidan Apito (SPP), Justin Hong (Ridge), Gil Zyndorf (Fair Lawn), Shane Conley (Jefferson), Collin Mills and Mike Lavin (Pope John), Tom Palluzzi (Wall), and James Pridmore (Colts Neck). Any player above the 95% level in percentile should be considered a top prospect for collegiate volleyball.
