April 22, 2024

Here is the first computer ranking of the NJ Boys High School season. With a little over 10 days of data, the algorithm will continue to refine these rankings as games continue to be added. There has already been 786 matches played through Sunday, April 21. There are 203 teams on the first ranking of the 2024 year.

Some really interesting observations from the first ranking. More than any other year we have covered, the top few teams appear separated from the rest of the pack. Old Bridge, Southern, and SPF are clear leaders with rating points at 24 and 25. Hackensack and Fair Lawn are the only other ranked teams with rating points higher than 20. Typically, the entire top 20 is within 5 rating points of the top team. There is also just 7 teams that are undefeated that have played at least three matches. This number is usually double two weeks into the season. This indicates more parity between teams 6 and 30 and a true dominance by the top 5 teams, especially the top 3.

We will see how the rankings settle once we get a couple of more weeks results into the database.
